This quality metal strip is selected because it is well suited to being used with the Metalcraft Practical Workshop and Starter Pack 2 Set offered by Ideal World (153549).

The metal used in SMC031, SMC036 and SMC038 is bright annealed mild steel, which combines strength with the ideal degree of softness to work with Metalcraft tools.

Once wiped clean of its light protective oil coating it is cleaner to handle and work with and looks more attractive.

SMC039 by contrast is made from Hot Rolled Black Mild steel which is more widely available, but slightly less clean to work with. Due its different manufacturing process it is more scaley to touch, duller in colour and when worked on Metalcraft tools deposits a small amount of metal dust. However, in terms of strength and compatibility with Metalcraft tools it is perfectly Ok when used with Metalcraft tools.  

Please note: Always replace the end cap of the cardboard transit tube to prevent excessive exposure to the atmosphere as, like all bare metal, it will start to show signs of rust.
