Cuisinart History

  • 1970s: Carl Sontheimer an American engineer, who lived in France, watched a food preparation machine being demonstrated in a restaurant. So impressed by the machine, he believed he could adapt the technology to become a useful appliance for American households. During the early to mid 1970s, Sontheimer returned to America and continued to develop the food processor with the help of food experts, James Beard and Julia Child. In 1973 after much hard work and determination, the first Cuisinart food processor was launched into the American market.
  • 1980s: During the 1980s Cuisinart continued to raise its profile with introductions of successful cook books and videotapes to support the food processor and, in 1989 it was bought by Conair Group; putting the resources of the world's largest personal care appliance company in the hands of inventors, engineers and home economists.
  • 1990s: Cuisinart continued to build on its success by entering into other categories such as coffee makers, toasters and hand blenders.
  • 2000s: In 2002, Cuisinart went back to its origins and launched in the French market, endorsed by the internationally-renowned chef, Paul Bocuse. The following year, Cuisinart entered the UK, selling through accredited and specialist kitchen retailers.
  • Today: Cuisinart is now the leading brand in a number of categories besides just food processors, by bringing to market new products that are truly innovative and state of the art.
