The TomTato is an specially hand-grafted vegetable plant that produces both potatoes and tomatoes! The aerial part of the TomTato produces a delicious crop of the cherry tomatoes, with the perfect balance of acidity and sweetness. Meanwhile below the ground the TomToato will produce a heavy yield of delicious white fleshed and versatile potatoes which can be boiled, mashed, roasted or chipped.

Since tomatoes and potatoes are closely related they have the ability to be grafted together much like fruit trees or roses. There is no complicated genetic modification involved, just good old fashioned horticultural expertise and a bit of careful craftsmanship. So these wonderfully unique TomTatoes have been specially grafted to produce an incredible crop of tomatoes and potatoes in an all-natural and perfectly safe process.

Top Tomtato Tips...

  • For best results grow in a container which holds at least 40 litres of compost or a deep container with at least 50cm (20") diameter. A large container is needed for proper development of both crops.

  • Water TomTato™ plants frequently to keep the compost evenly moist.

  • Alternatively grow TomTato™ plants in the ground on fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil. Prepare the soil in early spring by adding plenty of well rotted manure.

  • Once the first truss of fruit has formed, feed regularly with a high potash plant food such as Chempak® Soluble Tomato Food.

  • Support your TomTato™ plant as it grows, using several stout 1.5m (5') canes

  • Plant grafted tomato-potato plants with the graft union below soil level, burying the stem up to the second tomato leaf from the base. This aids stability and growth, and ensures the potatoes develop fully underground. Water thoroughly after planting.

  • Tomatoes can be harvested as they ripen from July to October. To help ripen green tomatoes, harvest red tomatoes regularly

Patatas bravas

  • Soften onions in a pan with a little oil. Add garlic tomatoes, paprika, chilli powder, sugar and salt and bring to the boil and simmer for 10 mins
  • Cut potatoes into small cubes and roast with a little oil for 40-45min
  • Once golden tip the potatoes in a dish and pour over sauce
Homemade Ketchup with Chips

Homemade Ketchup with Chips

  • Cook onions, celery and garlic in a little oil until soft
  • Add cinnamon, allspice, black pepper, tomatoes, tabasco sauce, white wine vinegar & caster sugar and cook for 30mins until tomatoes are soft
  • Use a stick blender to whizz ingredients into a smooth paste
  • Serve with homemade chips!

Tomato Frittata

  • Fry halved tomatoes and cubed boiled potatoes in a non-stick pan until starting to brown
  • Pour in mixture of well-seasoned eggs and cheese
  • Fry for 2-3 mins until golden, and then serve immediately
