Top Tips

  • As April brings a rise in temperature, it also bring an increase in garden weeds. Keep an eye out for these common plant-life pests, keeping weed killer or garden hand tools close by to effectively remove any offenders as you go
  • As things heat up, so should your watering routine. Keep your house plants happy and well-watered, but take care not to drown the roots
  • Sow new lawns and repair bare patches for a luscious green space when summer is in full swing
  • Plant lily bulbs with a half-filled 30cm container of compost to cover three bulbs. Once the plants begin to shoot, move them into the sun to encourage full bloom
  • Prepare for the growing season by digging in compost and manure. Dig a 5cm (or more) layer of compost or well-rotted manure into your beds or work with general purpose fertiliser. Apply a layer of mulch around your perennials, trees and shrubs before the hot weather arrives.
  • Many crops can be directly sown into the ground, including parsnips, cabbages and radishes, and April is the perfect time to kick-start your veggie patch!
