Pair of Rhododendron - Purple & Red (17cm)

'Marcel Menard' has incredibly rich, deep purple blooms of, with golden yellow speckled throats appear in large, extravagant clusters.

‘Nova Zembla’ has wonderfully bright pinky-red clusters of flowers in profusion.

These Rhododendrons have eautifully glossy, dark green leaves form a dense, compact evergreen shrub. The perfecet backdrop for showing off the luxurious flowers in May and June.

A great choice for an exotic planting scheme on acid soils, or for adding colour and structure to mixed borders, Rhododendrons are great as a specimen in a large pot where you can get up close to it.

The soil should be on the acidic side and rich in humus and always moist which will allow established plants to withstand direct mid-day and afternoon sun. Use ericaceous compost if growing in a pot, or add it to the planting hole in the border.

Supplied as established plants in 17cm pots, 'Marcel menard' will grow to H1.5m (5ft) x W1m (3ft) and ‘Nova Zembla’ to a hight and spread of 1.75m (6ft)

Care

Rhododendrons can tolerate a more open site as long as they are sheltered from cold, drying winds and early morning sunlight. Mulch plants and water deeply and regularly during dryer periods from July onwards. 

Your Rhododendron should be planted slightly higher than it was in its pot into well-draining soil. 

Rhododendrons need an acidic soil with a pH of around 5.5 in order to thrive - soils with pH higher than 5.5 should be acidified before planting or you can grow them in a container with ericaceous compost. 

Keep plants well-watered and apply a mulch to prevent the soil from drying out.
